Idea 01: Airbnb for Commercial Space
It just occurred to me this morning while driving into work that there always seems to be commercial real-estate for rent, and sometimes this is for months or years. I was reading an article the other day about a small business that sets up shop in retail space as needed. The article also seemed to suggest that this is common practice.
So the idea is, setup a portal for commercial real-estate...

Countdown Begins
Who I envy :-)
This post comes before the thoughts I promised in my previous post, but that’s life - isn’t it? I want to write about who I envy, and why.
For Mac users, Alfred is a must have app that you can get from the App store. The creator, Andrew (@preppeller on twitter) who recently quit his day job to work full-time on Alfred. I enjoyed reading his most recent post on his blog...
Some things I want to write about soon:
1) Why Apple may offer a hosting service for App developers that currently may be using the Amazon cloud.
2) Ideas for making email an obsolete technology (the next killer app)
3) Creative Ideas
Stay tuned - I just need some time to write these up.
The Nokia Paradox
Rumors about Microsoft buying Nokia have been surfacing for some time now. I can’t say whether there is any merit to it or not - i’m not an insider. What I can do is analyze the situation from an objective point of view and throw in my two cents worth. So here goes:
I think Nokia picked a bad partner in Microsoft. For Microsoft to succeed with Windows Phone 7, they have to...
Some thoughts on iCloud
As we (the tech folks at least) eagerly await the announcements made at WWDC next week, I wanted to present my thoughts on iCloud. Obviously I have no idea what iCloud will or will not have, but I desperately want Apple to blow my mind once again. So what’s it going to take to do that? Here goes:
First off, a locker for my music collection is not going to do it for me - and many others....

Gadgetry
Am I finally getting over my gadget obsession? Perhaps. Every year, I plan to buy one decent sized gadget (macbook, ipad, kindle etc). This year, i’m not sure what to have on my list. I’ll definitely get the next iPhone once that comes out, but I can’t seem to find anything new that excites me enough to shell out good money for it. What’s going on? For those who...

The role of Social Media in recent examples of...
It’s been fascinating to observe what has been going on in Tunisia, Egypt, and now Yemen with the unrest as a result of authoritarian regimes and peoples frustration with being left behind in the global context. I read this fascinating article on GigaOm (link) called “Gladwell Still Missing the Point About Social Media and Activism” by Mathew Ingram and couldn’t help but...

Resolutions 2011
This year I will….
1) Do at least one home-improvement project
2) Drink more water
3) Write more code and learn one new programming language
4) Read more and keep up with things broader than the technology arena
5) Figure out this work/life balance thing
Five resolutions are about all I want to take on this year. #3 is going to be the hardest, but one i’m looking forward to...

Apples & Oranges
iPhone and the Android market share… This Washington Post article was an interesting read, but I can’t help but share my perspective on it, so here it goes. First off, let me just say in the interest of full disclosure that i’m an apple fan-boy and my opinion is quite biased. That being said, I do want to present a different way of looking at the whole picture. While Android...

Time...
I’m going to solve a problem that I’ve created for myself; not having enough time to do things that need to get done.
How?
1) Take on less
2) Focus
3) Get things done to completion
4) Direct myself, rather than taking direction.
I just filed all 4,216 emails in my inbox (phew!). The oldest email was probably a month old, so it’s not like I have not gone through this...

Apple should buy Netflix one of these days!
I know this will piss off a lot of people - and so be it. In my opinion, Apple should buy Netflix and call it a day! Why? simply because it makes sense.
Apple is quickly becoming a solid content distributor and they have shown traditional music retailers how the game can be changed. They are the largest audio retailer today - and that’s no joke. Now let’s look at the Netflix...
