I said I would do it, and I did it. Sace is back on the rocks baby!
Last Saturday, I went and took a rock-climbing class and it was a blast. I’m glad I went. The class was more about process, rather than a rock-climbing lesson, but it was a good intro and got me excited about going in. As part of the class, I got a two week - one day pass with free equipment rental. The only thing that I didn’t like at the gym was the shoes, but that’s more so because I think I have special feet.
I had so much fun that I went back on Monday, with a co-worker. Jason, my next door neighbor at work climbed a lot better than I did. Bouldering was the name of the game on Monday. I learned a lot, but I hurt a lot more. I am still sore from then, but was planning to go today - didn’t happen. The day after I took the class, I went to REI (they had a 20% off sale for members), and bought a pair of ‘La Sportiva Nago’ climbing shoes. Size is something I am still not sure of yet. I got size 10 shoes, but I wear 9 1/2’s.
As of now, I can tie a double 8 knot, and a fishermans knot. I can use an ATF (Air Traffic Control unit), I can belay pretty well, and I can climb a 5.1 to 5.3 wall. I know the command: “On Belay”… “Belay On”… “Clinbing”… “Climb On”…. “Falling!”….”Fall Away”.
I am going back to the gym tomorrow.
