For the last two days, I had to work in Downtown Boston for a project. Rather than driving and risking being late, I decided to take the Commuter Train. That was an unexpectedly pleasant experience, and I missed the experience this morning when I had to drive to my work place. Even at 9:15 AM, the traffic was unpredictable and one can never get used to the sudden breaking that Boston drivers love to throw at you. What I really enjoyed was just sitting back and reading a newspaper (Metro) - while looking out of the window and taking in the morning. The train is unusually quiet, unlike the local T which squeaks a lot. Even everone on board was super quiet, so it was a good time to just sit and plan the day ahead. Really enjoyed it.
Living anywhere on the Commuter line makes it perfect for anyone working in the city. The challenge is when you live and work outside of the city. There does not seem to be a reasonable way for me to get to work besides driving. I wouldn’t even mind a bit longer commuite, but as it stands today, I would have to take a T into Boston and switch there to head all the way back out. That’s not happening. It’s a 144 minutes if I plan the trip on the mbta.com website.
